Governance of Calvary Congregation
The elected leadership at Calvary Lutheran Church includes its Pastor, four officers and the chairpersons of its six standing committees who serve as members of the Congregation Council.
The officers and the Pastor form the Executive Committee. The standing committees have responsibilities in the areas of Education, Evangelism, Property Maintenance, Service, Stewardship and Worship.
Council members must be voting members of the congregation and generally serve two year terms.
The council meets monthly and has fiduciary responsibility for money management as well as oversight of on-going approved programs of the congregation.
Additionally, the members of elected stand-alone committees, under the direction of the Pastor and the Council, manage Calvary Preschool and the Bequest Fund and recommend nominees for Council membership.
Ad hoc committees and task forces are formed as needed.
The congregation holds ultimate responsibility for governance and meets at least annually to adopt a budget, conduct elections and approve the actions of the Congregation Council and its various committees. It also meets whenever needed to discuss and act upon significant matters concerning finance and/or proposed programs.
